Mother Studios are work spaces for artists
It was founded in August 2001 by an artist for artists. The studios are based in Hackney Wick, next to the River Lee. The building, originally a warehouse was built in 1910 and is very typical of the style of the day.
The spaces are situated on the top 3 floors of the building and have fantastic light as a result of being off the ground
Mother Studios also offers a support network for the artists at the studios.
Jo says: During my 8 years in London i moved in and out of various studios from Stoke Newington, Brick Lane to Shoreditch. I found that the space i had in Shoreditch had became too small and went looking for a larger space. It was then that I realised just how few spaces were available and just how many artists had lost their studios lists because of the property developers in these areas. It was at that point i becamereally foolish and thought that setting up my own would be a good and easy idea.
The studios offer more than a place to make your work if you want it. But a place to find support, contacts, skills etc. I find the self promotion of my work difficult. This has guided me with the development of Mother Studios. We also frequently organise parties and bbq's so look out for information on these on the noticeboard.
